Big data roles in aerospace industries

Data has become a vital component in our daily life due to digital transformation in the 21st century. They are not merely for personal applications, but also for governments, businesses and industrial use. Internet websites require data to improve their services and experience for the users. Businesses collect and use data to understand the needs and habits of their costumers, which can then be transformed into something beneficial. Even many smart home devices, such as mobile phones, have exploited extensive data sources, to provide relevant information and serve the users. The role of data becomes more and more important through the rise of new phenomenon, called big data. Big data is data collections with massive and extraordinary volume, collected from a large variety of different sources, structured or unstructured, which then, their patterns, trends and characteristics can be analysed and visualised through computer systems. The processed data and their analysed results can then

Data mining and machine learning to enhance data analysis for atmospheric science research

The scientific media is brimming with Artificial Intelligence related buzzwords such as data mining and machine learning . But what do these terms really mean? And can we put these techniques to work in our own research? Data mining can be defined as the process of analysing hidden patterns of data to provide useful information, whereas machine learning is the science of making a computer (or machine) learn from data without being explicitly programmed, the machine is then subsequently able to perform automatic tasks. These methods have been widely used in a number of applications, from robotics to aerospace, from environmental to physical sciences. SMEAR II Hyytiälä visit to observe atmospheric measurements As with other scientific disciplines, these methods have shown strong potential in atmospheric research, especially related to INAR research activities. This is thanks to the large and high-quality data sets generated by INAR infrastructure and research facilities, including the S
